Nestled on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, this small Baltic nation offers beautiful sandy beaches, peaceful pine forests, and some surprisingly reliable wind. Add a passionate local kite community and fewer crowds than Europe’s famous hotspots, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an unforgettable session. Just don’t expect tropical water—your wetsuit will definitely earn its keep.

The best kitesurfing season runs from May to September, when warmer temperatures combine with consistent Baltic winds. Summer thermal breezes and passing weather systems typically deliver 15-25 knots, while spring and autumn often bring stronger conditions for experienced riders. Westerly and southwesterly winds are the most common, providing excellent cross-shore conditions along much of the coast.

Lithuania’s most famous kitesurfing destination is the Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. The area around Nida offers a unique combination of the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other, allowing riders to choose between waves and flat water depending on the conditions. It’s hard to beat a kite session surrounded by towering sand dunes and untouched nature.

Further north, Svencelė has become the country’s kitesurfing capital. Located on the Curonian Lagoon, this purpose-built kite destination offers shallow, flat water and consistent winds, making it ideal for beginners, freestyle riders, and foilers alike.

For those who enjoy wave riding, Palanga and Šventoji provide long sandy beaches and reliable Baltic swell when the wind picks up.

Kitesurfing in Lithuania is all about embracing simplicity: reliable wind, uncrowded beaches, and stunning natural scenery. You may not leave with a suntan worthy of the Caribbean, but you’ll almost certainly leave with a smile—and a newfound appreciation for hot coffee after a windy session.
