Kite Season
Puerto Rico, a tropical paradise nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, is not just famous for its beautiful beaches and rich culture; it’s also a premier destination for kitesurfing. Consistent winds, warm waters, and diverse kitesurfing spots, Puerto Rico offers an exhilarating playground for riders of all levels.
It is windy pretty much year-round, with September and October being the worst. The prime kitesurfing season in Puerto Rico typically spans from December to April when the trade winds known as the “Christmas Winds” or “Vientos Alisios” blow consistently with wind speeds averaging 15 to 25 knots. The water temperature remains pleasantly warm year-round, making wetsuits optional. Even during the “low season” you can get around 20 windy days a month ;)
Right in the capital city of San Juan the Ocean Park Beach offers great kite conditions with amazing view of the town. San Juan is not just about historic forts and vibrant nightlife; it’s also a kitesurfing hotspot. A bit further away, Punta Las Marías is popular among advanced riders.
There are other smaller beaches where you’re able to kite, such as La Parguera, Isabela & Las Picuas.
