Predominaely a surf destination, New Zealand is suitable for all levels of riders. It is a destination that permits freestyle riding sessions. The best time to kitesurf in New Zealand is in spring or summer (September – February). The winter can be a bit of a challenge as the water tends to be extremely cold and the winds are a bit unpredictable.

Though New Zealand is less visited by kitesurfers, near famous kite spots you will find various resorts and small accommodation options, that will allow you to be close by the water. Another great option is a campervan to reach remote areas.

In New Zealand, a kitesurfer is considered to be a sailing vessel, which means you have to comply with marine regulations and respect the kitesurfing rules! Refresh the knowledge of the right of way rules and avoid no go zones.

In Auckland area, Takapuna Beach (flat water) is a great spot during summer. Muriwai Beach is a favorite among wave-riding kitesurfers.

Raglan, (Waikato) is a huge lagoon, popular for kitesurfing.
