Kite Season
Martinique, a little slice of France in the Caribbean, is not just about baguettes, rum, and stunning beaches—it’s also a killer kitesurfing destination. With warm turquoise waters, tropical scenery, and steady trade winds, this island offers an incredible playground for both beginners and experienced riders. Plus, you get to practice your French while ordering a post-session Ti’ Punch.
The prime time for kitesurfing in Martinique is from November to June, when the northeast trade winds blow consistently between 15 and 25 knots. Conditions range from flat-water lagoons to small waves, making it an ideal spot for freestyle, freeride, and even some wave action. And did we mention the water is bathtub-warm? No wetsuits needed—just sunscreen and maybe a pirate hat for extra Caribbean flair.
Pointe Faula – The go-to kite spot on the island. Located on the southeastern coast, this shallow lagoon with crystal-clear water and steady wind is perfect for beginners and freestyle riders. You can literally stand in the water for miles, making it feel like a giant swimming pool designed for kiting.
A more scenic and less crowded spot, Cap Chevalier, this area offers beautiful blue water, good wind, and a mix of flat and choppy conditions. It’s also a great excuse to explore Martinique’s wild coastline.
Beyond kitesurfing, Martinique is about good vibes, good food, and good rum. So after a full day on the water, grab some fresh seafood, sip on a local rhum agricole, and let the island’s magic sink in.
