Shangri La (Snowkite)
/ year
Directions:
drive out to about 18 mile east end road, take Basargin/Eagle Lake Rd. going north. Go 2 miles and after the road hooks right park in the spot where you can see the gated road heading uphill. Hike/ski up the road about a half mile until you have access to the flats. When the snow is over 3 ft. you can kite in from the parking lot or from the halfway point but you will need to be able to keep your kite up the whole way, if you drop it it will go into thick brush.
Wind directions – E, N, W but not very good on a south. Shangri-La is best on a high pressure system when the wind isn’t apparent anywhere else, in fact you can’t always tell if there is wind from the parking area. However, there is almost always wind there.
It is your responsability to check whether kitesurfing is allowed at the spot; you might need a 'special permit' or membership from a local kite organization, etc. Local rules can change. Respect others - kiters or not; kite safely and enjoy the wind!
