Kite Season
The Maldives, an archipelago of over 1,000 coral islands in the Indian Ocean, is known by honeymooners and for its luxurious overwater bungalows, vibrant marine life, and crystal-clear waters. But beyond its idyllic beaches and underwater wonders, the Maldives is emerging as a top kitesurfing destination, offering riders a unique blend of luxury and adventure.
The Maldives mostly have lighter wind, and even in high season, there can be some windless days. The best kitesurfing season is from May to October, when southwest monsoon “Hulhangu” brings a consistent wind of around 15-23 knots. It is possible to kite year-round, but there are more no-wind days in the off-season.
The kite spots are mostly flat water lagoons with coral reefs, some of them accessible only by private chartered boats. Remember, the Maldives are about luxury and private resorts, so is the access to the spots. It is windy in all archipelago and they’re some wave spots too.
Kitesurfing in the Maldives offers a unique combination of thrilling water activities and luxurious accommodations. Whether you’re carving through crystal-clear lagoons or relaxing in a plush resort after an action-packed day, the Maldives promises an unforgettable kitesurfing experience in paradise.
