Kite Season
If you’ve ever dreamed of kitesurfing in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but the wind, the ocean, and miles of untouched coastline, then Western Sahara is calling your name. This vast, remote desert-meets-ocean destination offers world-class kiting conditions, with steady winds, warm waters, and barely another soul in sight—except maybe a few camels chilling on the beach.
Western Sahara is blessed with consistent trade winds year-round, but the absolute best conditions are from April to October, when wind speeds regularly hit 20-30 knots. Even in the off-season, there are plenty of breezy days. The desert effect helps amplify the wind, meaning strong, reliable sessions almost every day. The water is warm, the beaches are endless, and the wind? Relentless.
The crown jewel of kitesurfing in Western Sahara, Dakhla Lagoon is a kiter’s paradise. A massive flat-water lagoon with butter-smooth conditions, it’s perfect for freestyle, beginners, and anyone who wants to work on their tricks. The wind is so reliable, you might forget what a “no-wind day” even feels like.
Speed Spot – Just outside of Dakhla Lagoon, this spot offers insanely flat water and strong winds, making it ideal for speed demons and freestyle riders looking for the perfect pop.
Pointe d’Or – A stunning mix of waves and flat-water sections, this spot is perfect for both freeride and wave riders. And if you like a bit of adventure, the wild, remote setting adds to the thrill.
Duna Blanca (White Dune) – The Ultimate Downwinder – One of the most exciting kitesurfing trips in Dakhla! This massive white sand dune rising from the lagoon is a must-visit. Ride downwind, take in the stunning scenery, and for the grand finale—launch yourself off the dune and land in the water! It’s a mix of adrenaline, beauty, and pure fun.
Western Sahara isn’t just about kitesurfing—it’s about the experience. Riding in a place where the desert meets the sea, dining under the stars, and watching flamingos chill in the lagoon? Yeah, it’s that kind of magical. Just watch out—the wind might be the only thing stronger than your urge to stay forever!
