Playa Famara is a 6 km long sandy beach in the northwest of Lanzarote. The beach faces northwest and thus offers perfect cross-on conditions with the prevailing north-easterly wind, especially on the part of the beach behind the Island Homes bungalow settlement. This back section of the beach is the designated kite zone. Kiting is not permitted on the first section of the beach, between the village of Caleta de Famara and the bungalow settlement. This first stretch of beach is a designated surfing zone with bathers, families with children, free surfers, and surf schools.
It is your responsability to check whether kitesurfing is allowed at the spot; you might need a 'special permit' or membership from a local kite organization, etc. Local rules can change. Respect others - kiters or not; kite safely and enjoy the wind!
