Kite Season
One of the most popular kitesurfing destinations is, as you might guess, Portugal. The best season to kite surf here is between April and August, while almost all kitesurfing spots are suitable for all levels of experience. Usually, with flat waters, the waves are constant during the second part of the day, while the wind is constant in its strength.
Portugal is an exquisite destination that offers great waves, good wind conditions and a diversity of locations from which you can select. One of the greatest kite spots in Europe, Peniche, is just one hour away from Lisbon. Other famous spots include Guincho, Caparica, Cabedelo or Esposende, Azores Islands (particularly São Miguel) are always wild and windy and better of for experienced kitesurfers.
Keep in mind that during summer months the areas suitable for kitesurfing are also packed with people that get a day of the sunbath and spend time on the beach. Thus, in some area, you will have to follow local regulations or even be allowed to kitesurf only on certain spots of the beach itself.
Being a budget-friendly destination, Portugal offers a multitude of other activities which you can enjoy if the weather is not suitable for kitesurfing, including exploring local villages or natural reserves.
