Whether you’re chasing strong winds, perfect waves, or just an excuse to sip mint tea after a session, Morocco delivers. The Atlantic coast is blessed with steady winds, warm weather, and enough tajine to keep your energy levels high.
The best time to kitesurf in Morocco is from April to October, when the trade winds (known locally as the chergui and nortada) kick into gear. But you can kitesurf pretty much year-round. During this period, wind speeds range between 15 and 35 knots, making it ideal for all levels. Summers bring stronger thermal winds, while winter offers more wave-riding opportunities.
Essaouira – Known as the “Windy City of Africa,” Essaouira offers consistent winds, a mix of flat water and waves, and an authentic Moroccan atmosphere. It’s great for beginners, freestyle riders, and anyone who enjoys a good post-session tagine. Bonus: You might share the beach with a few friendly camels!
Sidi Kaouki – Just south of Essaouira, this spot is for those who love riding waves and escaping the crowds. Stronger winds, open beaches, and rolling swells make it a top choice for wave kitesurfers. Plus, the laid-back vibe and local surf cafes make it easy to stay longer than planned.
A hidden gem with a stunning lagoon Oualidia, perfect for freestyle riders and beginners. The wind is a bit lighter here, but the flat water conditions make up for it. And if you love oysters, this is the place to indulge after a session.
Better known as a surf town, Taghazout also offers decent kitesurfing conditions when the wind picks up. If the wind doesn’t cooperate, grab a surfboard, chill in a beachside café, or just enjoy the relaxed bohemian vibe.
