Kite Season
Mauritius, a paradisiacal island nation in the Indian Ocean, offers kitesurfing enthusiasts a dreamlike setting with its turquoise lagoons, white sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. Mauritius provides an enchanting backdrop for exhilarating kiteboarding adventures.
Mauritius is a melting pot of cultures, with influences from Africa, Europe, India, and China, creating a unique blend of traditions and cuisines. Visitors can explore the island’s diverse landscapes, from the lush interior with its waterfalls and wildlife to the pristine beaches and coral reefs along the coast.
The best time for kitesurfing in Mauritius is during the austral summer, from May to November, when the southeast trade winds, known as the “Southeast Trades,” blow consistently along the coast. During this season, riders can expect wind speeds ranging from 20 to 25 knots, providing ideal conditions for kiteboarding. The temperatures are warm year-round, so leave the wetsuit at home (unless you like dressing like a seal for fun) and kite season is pretty much year-round.
Located on the SW tip of the island, Le Morne is a world-renowned kiteboarding destination. The iconic UNESCO World Heritage site of Le Morne Brabant provides a stunning backdrop for kiteboarding sessions, with consistent winds and flat water conditions inside the lagoon. Riders can also challenge themselves with wave riding on the reef outside.
Situated on the eastern coast, Pointe d’Esny and Pointe Jerome have long stretches of sandy beaches and shallow lagoons, making it an ideal spot for beginners and freestylers. The steady trade winds and turquoise waters create perfect conditions for kiteboarding, with plenty of space to practice and explore.
On the northern coast, Anse La Raie offers a quieter alternative for kiteboarders seeking less crowded waters and consistent winds. The lagoon provides flat water conditions for freestyle riding, while the nearby reef offers opportunities for wave riding and downwind adventures.
