Beautiful lake and very popular kite spot away from everything. Mostly suitable for camping – and bring everything with you, as the place is very limited with amenities. It is an authentic, hippie place with coexistence with kiters, windsurfers, hikers etc.
July and August are the best months to go. Local shop has few basic things and there is a cafe too. Thermal wind every day during the summer.
Wind
Consistent 20+ knts. Mostly thermal wind, starting from 10 AM to 4 PM during summer. As per thermal wind, wind statistics can be off.
Dangers
Bears (camping), don’t leave the food around.
Events
Nitinaht Windfest in mid-August.
It is your responsability to check whether kitesurfing is allowed at the spot; you might need a 'special permit' or membership from a local kite organization, etc. Local rules can change. Respect others - kiters or not; kite safely and enjoy the wind!
